One of the most exciting aspects of a mobile device is its ability to let you to interact with your surroundings. This article takes a look at a method of controlling consumer appliances (stereo, DVD player, VCR, television, hobby robots, etc...) using their built-in infrared (IR) receivers. There are several good applications available that allow you to send/receive IR signals from your Pocket PC, but they all suffer from the same problem: the IRDA port on most models is too weak to produce a consumer IR signal that can go further than 8 feet.
