This article and the tests are rather dated. They have been created in early 2002 based on the original .NET Framework 1.0 (no service packs). Things have changed in the meantime. Internet Information Server 6.0 and version 1.1 of the .NET Framework expose different performance characteristics. In general I'd also like to point out that this article is based on synthetic microbenchmarks which *only* measure the transport overhead of a given protocol without taking any server-side operations into account. I am currently (as of mid 2004) preparing a follow-up whitepaper which addresses these issues.
