ASP.NET is an evolution of Microsoft's Active Server Page (ASP) technology. With ASP.NET, you can rapidly develop complex web applications using a paradigm familiar to anyone who has programmed in Visual Basic. Simply drag and drop controls onto the Web Form, add code to the various control events, and program in any of the languages supported by the .NET Framework. Such simplicity is made possible through Web Controls, which are graphical controls that convert themselves into browser-appropriate client-side code: DHTML and JavaScript, if the browser supports it, or regular HTML if the browser is less capable.
