Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer continues to challenge IBM on the benchmarking front, much as Oracle used to continuously trump DB2 in the TPS wars. Using Sun Microsystems WSTest 1.1, Microsoft claims .NET 2.0 yields 200 percent better performance than IBM WebSphere, and 40 percent better than today's .NET 1.1. No details of the test were disclosed, but the differential is impressive and IBM's relative silence continues since Microsoft started this battle with benchmarks released by VP Soma Somasegar at VSLive! Orlando last September.
