Many computational problems facing financial engineers and the scientific community today require massive amounts of computing power. There are several ways to deliver this computational performance. Symmetric multiprocessing systems or message passing interfaces have been the standards for meeting high performance computing needs. However, using parallel web services, which are based on standard protocols and run on commodity x86 based servers, may be a simpler, less expensive way to deliver the computing horsepower needed.
