HTML5 has some exciting features that allow us to build web based application like windows application. A couple of months ago, my company had a competition on HTML 5. It reminded me pf an OPT subject when I was still a student. I brought this idea into the competition to maximized applying HTML 5 features in. Today I was developing the application for streaming files on server using WCF. Everything was fine until I deployed application on production server. I found out that WCF was taking machine name instead of IP address or domain name. This accurs when WCF service is hosted on IIS. The links to wsdl use local machine name. The autogenerated page I received when I was navigating to the .svc page said:...

I have tried to transfer large files over HTTP to/from WCF, but I have faced problems in that I was not able to upload files more than 45 KB in size. I have Googled over www, but I did not find any ready-to-use sample code/solution. Using the explanations over the www and MSDN, I have tried many configuration setting combinations and finally succeeded in transferring large files (I have tested up to 1GB on IE6)....

After a WCF service is hosted in a ServiceHost, there is no direct way to check if a WCF service is running. One can subscribe to the ServiceHost events and trigger alerts when the ServiceHost starts or faults. For Services that are exposed through HTTP binding, if HTTPGet is enabled, you have an option of hitting the URL through a browser to query the Metadata. For Services exposed through TCP and NamedPipe binding, a direct option is not available. I thought a command line utility like the Pin...

It is pretty complex to maintain the configuration part of WCF services, if more services are adding / modifying, very frequently.

It will be a better idea to develop a service library for our Silverlight client, without any configurations in the config file. The following class diagram says about such a library, which is the scope of this article....

The goal of this article is to provide a simple example of a method to manage settings in a Windows Service using WCF.

My first attempt to solve this situation was to develop a small Windows Dorms application which would directly edit the service EXE config file. I finally found it much more elegant to let the service itself deal with the settings savings, and provide a small WCF service inside of it to expose functionalities to my Windows Forms application....

I spotted a good comparison of TFS vs. Subversion by Jaroslaw Dobrzanski on DZone (you can also read the original post) but I feel that a couple of the points were either out of date, or borne out of a lack of knowledge of the product, or even more likely, I just missed the point. This article was taken from the perspective of an SVN user who has moved to TFS, and I am not in that category....

Throttling is an important behavior of your WCF service that you should be addressing before publishing your service to clients.

The throttling behavior holds the configuration for 3 limitations that control the amount of resources that your service hosting can allocate to deal with client requests, thus enables you to manage the resource usage and balance the performance load....

Before .NET Framework 3.0, Microsoft released many technologies and platforms for developing network-distributed services, including Web Services (ASMX), Web Service Enhancement (WSE), Enterprise Services (COM+), Microsoft Message Queue and (MSMQ) and Remoting. Too many technologies for a purpose lead to too many considerations when developing software systems.
